I have studied, prayed and pondered about this revelation for almost fifty years, but that doesn’t mean that I see it in its wholeness yet, but just that I am on my way in understanding truth. I believe my testimony will help beginning readers who are active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as I am.
New readers or listeners are apt to read or hear something that doesn’t seem to fit with church teachings and quickly decide it must be false. I myself went through that when I first opened the Urantia Book in 1967. I saw all the authors names and since they were not the ordinary names of humans, I jumped to the conclusion that it must be a channeled book, and I had already discerned that true revelation did not come in that way. In fact, I called them “Whipped Cream books”, because you could read all the nice English words and then turn to tell your friend what you read, and have no idea what it said, as the the air had come out of it and there was no substance.
In about two weeks after I jumped to that conclusion about the authors, I was preparing to take the book back to the Library, and I opened the book to a page in the life and teachings of Jesus and read about Simon the Pharisee inviting Jesus and Peter, James and John to a banquet.
A woman of unsavory reputation who had recently become a believer in the good news of the gospel of the kingdom came off of the street and into the open room as was the custom for the guests to throw food to them! The woman was so grateful for the good news of repentance and realizing she too could be a faith daughter of our Heavenly Father —with gratitude, she anointed Jesus’ feet with oil and wept and wiped her tears from his feet with her long hair!
As I read what Jesus said to her and to Simon, it was as if I recognized Jesus’ voice as I read, and I knew it was Jesus speaking. My testimony of the truthfulness of the epochal revelation started that night and has continued to grow in all these nearly 50 years.
In time I realized that The Urantia Book was written by about 35 authors, none of them mortals. They were personalities in the Universe who had received a ‘calling’ to record the paper they authored. The authors list their ‘callings’, even as if an apostle wrote a paper about the Church he would sign it ‘an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ”, or an Apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. An Elder might sign his paper, An Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood, or a sister might sign her paper, “President of the Relief Society General Board”.
As I read the papers my mind was enlightened and I discerned this was more than just a book, it was an Epochal Revelation for all the people of this earth. I was filled with questions, filled with wonder and awe, wondering how I could have found such an amazing revelation at a public library? I was just in my thirties, a young wife and mother, a common woman having the audacity to be looking at the library to find out how to listen after prayer time to our Father in Heaven! I had nearly lost our last baby born with complications, and prayers had been answered for her survival, but during my prayers for her recovery and life, I had used the words, “If you are really there God, will you be my teacher?” As my baby recovered I was beginning to be aware of being taught, but then I worried that I had no idea how to listen. I had been going to the Library regularly searching for the answer. I also began researching about the dead sea scrolls, in hopes of reading first hand revelations. My prayers were answered in a very different way than I had expected. I am still learning, and as the saying goes, I am a work in progress.
We are taught in the Revelation that truth is progressive and growing and that truth is given in gradual-progressive steps. I began to realize that the Church of Jesus Christ, had to be built on what was all ready known in the evolutionary Christian churches and in the Bible. Therefore the Church of Jesus Christ has more truth than the evolutionary Christian churches, but they were not given all truth.
When the epochal Revelation was given one hundred years later, in 1930, the church was still having ‘growing pains’ so perhaps that is why there is no mention of it in the Urantia Revelation—-maybe one—which I will tell you about later… Remember that in the the late 1920s and 1930’s when the epochal revelation was given, the church was still recovering from the changes the manifesto -forbidding polygamy—issued by President Wilford Woodruff had brought to the church. In the 80 plus years since I was born I have certainly seen the Church become ‘fine tuned’, so that they are becoming a beautiful work of spiritual art.
The Urantia Revelation is filled with enlargements on the truths that were given to Joseph Smith and the Presidents of the Church since then. In every paper of the Urantia Revelation I can see that the germ of that truth was given to the Prophets of the Church and we have been taught just enough that when you read the enlarged truth you just thrill to see the enlargement. Maybe this might be a simple analogy: We are shown a black and white picture of someone, and then we see a color movie of the person and we learn so much more about them.
Being a student of the Urantia Revelation has not caused me to look critically at the church leaders or brothers and sisters in the church. Rather I feel daily gratitude for the wonderful church organization which is giving millions of people an opportunity to learn the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to put it into their lives. I am so grateful for the prophet, Joseph Smith, and his revelations and translations. Grateful also for the faithful and fearless latter day saints ready to sacrifice everything to be a part of the Church of Jesus Christ. My ancestors were some of those pioneers and other ancestors heard the missionaries teach that an angel had brought the gospel to a young man in New York, and being students of The Bible, they recognized the Apostle John’s revelation foretelling that an angel would someday bring the everlasting Gospel to the earth! They asked the missionaries to teach them and in time they wanted to be baptized. My dear parents were so dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and desired to be good parents. They taught us to love Heavenly Father and Jesus, and we were all active in the Church of Jesus Christ. I am ever grateful for all of them.
Again this is my simple analogy: If you had a master’s degree, would you look askance at the school and teachers and students where you received your bachelors degree?
Of course not. Of course you have learned some additional knowledge that the teachers at the college you attended didn’t teach you, but you are grateful for what you were taught that prepared you to go to another school to get your masters. And you know you have more to learn, and that those who have a doctor’s degree have more understanding and knowledge than you have, so you are humbled by realizing how much more there is to learn. I feel like that, I am grateful for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and all its leaders who have so faithfully and nobly carried on this Church/School on this earth, and feel blessed for my membership in the church.
As I read the Urantia Book for the first time I continually keep the words in my mind that I read in the Book of Mormon, This quote was one of my measurements for discerning the truth.
“And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy ghost ye may know the truth of all things. And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is. And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.”
As I prayfully read the Urantia Revelation the Spirit of our Father, and the Spirit of Christ and the Holy Ghost- all as one— testified to me that it was what it claims to be, an Epochal Revelation of truth to everyone on the earth now and in the future.
I will confess that it took a while to know how it fit with the church. I did a lot of praying. It was a gradual experience as I sought for understanding, but then a joyous one as I understood the answer about each difference I read.
It is my prayer that my experience in studying, reading, praying and listening to the Spirit about the audio or the written words of this Revelation will help you, who have been guided to find my YouTube channel. I hope what I share will help take away your fears and replace it with living faith and trust in our Heavenly Father and Jesus who have given this gift of Revelation to our Earth. I hope it will show you the Harmony that exists between the teaching of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, and the Urantia Revelation – the 5th Epochal Revelation to this earth.
And may I add, that I don’t think the church leaders need to know about this Revelation, although I can’t imagine not knowing about Jesus’ life and teachings as it is given in detail in the revelation, but I do think the church leaders are doing a wonderful service in the Church organization—-preparing millions of people on the planet to live “Christ like lives” and be ready for Eternal Life.
They are doing a noble service providing churches and temples and missionaries all in the effort to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ on this earth and helping people get a Spiritual degree on earth. When the time is right the Church leaders and members will receive it.
Until then, read it as a personal revelation, which it is, and then LIVE IT, and you don’t even have to share it with other church members, all you need to do is live it and bear the fruits of the spirit and be loving and caring, be good and service oriented, be thirsty for truth and learn to listen, be merciful and forgiving, discipline your thoughts and identify with your Spirit so you two can be one, Be more active in the Church organization than ever before, because you see the purpose of helping people grow spiritually, clearer than ever before.
I have said above you don’t need to feel you need to talk about this epochal revelation. You know the saying, “Teach the Gospel and when necessary use words!” I say this for a couple of reasons: It is best to live it and let the Spirit prepare people and have them be guided to find you.
What about myself? I am in a position where I have a pseudonym which I call my spiritual art name, so I can ‘leave’ a “tract’ at any door that opens to me, or comes to find me on Youtube or my website. I can leave myself out of the process and do not receive reward since my Spirit is running ‘the address spot’ on the world wide web. That is why I realized that I now have a unique opportunity to share and am sharing the Harmony series.
As “my mortal identity” I do not share this Revelation with members of the church unless I am very impressed to do so, and in the beginning I let my enthusiasm override the caution of my spirit, and persons were not receptive. I suppose it is a case of learning wisdom from ones failures.
One last thought, many of us have wished we could be living when Jesus returned again, and when you have a testimony of what the Urantia Revelation really is.. you will realize that we are now living when he has sent us a written record of his Life and teachings I have a friend who says the BOOK SINGS! I think of it in musical terms also: I say it is JESUS’ REVELATION SYMPHONY.
