Most LDS know the story of “The First Vision” regarding the two-thirds, the “sealed” portion of the “golden plates,” founder Joseph Smith spoke of in the 1820’s — but are left wondering what was contained in these “sealed plates.”
It’s been 180 years since this was promised. Many speculate that The Urantia Book is the anticipated “two-thirds” that were NOT translated but were promised to come someday.

The Urantia Book
The Urantia Book portrays our relationship with God the Father. All human beings are the sons and daughters of a loving God and therefore brothers and sisters in the family of God. The book provides new spiritual truth for modern men and women and a pathway to a personal relationship with God.
Building on the world's religious heritage, it describes an endless destiny for humankind. It teaches us that living faith is the key to personal spiritual progress and eternal survival.

“We believe in all truth, no matter to what subject it may refer. No sect or religious denomination [or, I may say, no searcher of truth] in the world possesses a single principle of truth that we do not accept or that we will reject. We are willing to receive all truth, from whatever source it may come; for truth will stand, truth will endure.”

The Book of Mormon speaks clearly of such as this in 3rd Nephi 26:
8 And these things have I written, which are a lesser part of the things which he taught the people; and I have written them to the intent that they may be brought again unto this people, from the Gentiles, according to the words which Jesus hath spoken.
9 And when they shall have received this, which is expedient that they should have first, to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto them.
10 And if it so be that they will not believe these things, then shall the greater things be withheld from them, unto their condemnation.
11 Behold, I was about to write them, all which were engraven upon the plates of Nephi, but the Lord forbade it, saying: I will try the faith of my people.

Those who have discovered The Urantia Book are spread across various locations and typically participate in study groups. There are no hierarchical structures or mandatory dues associated with the book. There is not reason to leave your church home.
We recommend using The Urantia Book as a supplement to your spiritual journey within the LDS Church. When interpreted with the guidance of the Spirit, and your own courageous and independent thinking, the teachings can be harmonized.
Our concern is spelled out in Paper 99 of The Urantia Book:
“Man’s greatest spiritual jeopardy consists in partial progress, the predicament of unfinished growth: forsaking the evolutionary religions of fear without immediately grasping the revelatory religion of love. Modern science, particularly psychology, has weakened only those religions which are so largely dependent upon fear, superstition, and emotion.” 99:4.8 (1090.4)
The Urantia Book provides an expanded view of:
- The entire life of Jesus from before birth to His resurrection and appearances.
- Our place in the universe.
- Our origin, history and destiny
- Adam and Eve in detail never imagined before. These two amazing beings are explained in precise detail. Their complicated legacy can now be understoood.
- Melchizedek lived 5000 years before Jesus and was here to teach us trust and faith and shore up the religious life of the men and women on earth in those days. This prepared the way for Jesus’s mission.
- And so much more about our heavenly father, the ministering angels, and the progressive attainment that awaits us, if we so choose.

ONE
God, as the First Source and Center of everything in existence, is the Father of every man; therefore all men are brothers. (Hebrew 3:4; Matthew 23:9; Matthew 11:27; John 14:7-9; 1 John 4:8; Matthew 23:8; Genesis 1:27)
TWO
The Christ, who incarnated as Jesus of Nazareth, is the begotten Son of God, the Creator of our Universe, the head of the Christian congregation, and the elder brother of all mankind. (Colossians 1:15-18; Romans 8:17)
THREE
A fragment of the Spirit of God dwells within the minds of each of us and it is the means by which we commune with the Father. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 1 Peter 1:23; Matthew 6:6-8; Matthew 10:2931; Ecclesiastes 12:7)
FOUR
From the beginning, the Father purposed to adopt earthling man as His spirit sons and daughters in His heavenly kingdom after their earthly career is complete. FIVE

EIGHT
The law of the Kingdom of God is: You must love God with your whole heart, mind and strength, and your neighbor as yourself. (Matthew 22:36-40)

All who enter the brotherhood of the Kingdom of God on earth are to be ambassadors substituting for Christ with a ministry of reconciling mankind to God so they, too, can begin the heavenly ascent to the Father. TEN
